Smuin-New Ballet Joint Trainee Program Announced

Nov. 22, 2017 San Jose. Dalia Rawson, Executive Director of The New Ballet, has announced a joint training program of The New Ballet and Smuin Contemporary American Ballet. Celia Fushille, Artistic Director of Smuin, selected Mesa Burdick, Jonah Corrall, and Isabella Phillips from among New Ballet Studio Company dancers, aspiring professional dancers ages 17-24. They will work with Smuin in class and rehearsal as scheduled October through December 2017.

"New Ballet Studio Company dancers are very well trained, and we believe they will benefit from experience in the Smuin professional environment," said Fushille. "It will be a time for us to get to know each other and see how we work together." Rawson expressed her excitement about this opportunity for her Studio Company dancers. "Smuin is a vibrant contemporary ballet company with a world-class repertoire featuring some of the most innovative choreographers of our time," Rawson said, "The opportunity to be in the studio with the talented Smuin dancers and working with their artistic staff is invaluable to a dancer at this stage of their career."
