Diablo Ballet Launches Dance Laboratory

08/23/2021

August 18, 2021—Walnut Creek-based Diablo Ballet has announced the creation of a dance laboratory to assist talented local choreographers. The dance laboratory is the creation of dancer Felip Leon, who joined Diablo in 2016, to offer local choreographers the opportunity to explore and create new work. "I was inspired to create a new platform for our local, diverse, and talented San Francisco Bay Area choreographers to come together to create and celebrate dance and bring our community together," said Leon.

New, as well as experienced choreographers, will have opportunities to explore their creativity, gain experience, and reach their artistic potential. Choreographers will be provided with professional dancers, rehearsal time, studio space, and the opportunity to have their work performed. A selected work will be included in Diablo Ballet's 2022-2033 season.

Interested choreographers are encouraged to submit a video of their work, no longer than five minutes, and their resume to diablo@diabloballet.org. The deadline for video submissions is September 10, 2021. Choreographers will be chosen and notified in December 2021, and the choreographic process will begin in April 2022. Works will be performed in Diablo Ballet's Black Box Studio Theatre on June 5, 2022, where a small audience will vote on which work or works will be chosen for the 2022-2023 Season.
